After a mild growing season, the heat came on strong in Paso Robles during the month of August.  However, the healthy Grenache vines of Sea Shell Vineyard in conjunction with the thick skins of its grapes were able to weather the heat and make it through to the more moderate weeks of the 2018 harvest, allowing us ample time to pick the grapes at an optimum, low sugar level while still maintaining the variety’s characteristic bright, refreshing acidity.

After an early morning pick to ensure that the fruit arrived cold, the Grenache was destemmed and loaded directly into the press.  A gentle press cycle was then used in order to minimize the pickup of any bitter skin phenolics.  After cold settling, the juice was clean racked and allowed to ferment slowly in a chilled tank in order to maximize aromatic expression.

The 2017 Sea Shell Cellars Grenache Rosé is a drop of invigorating, refreshing zen in a sea of chaos and distractions. This Rosé's nose greets you with soothing hints of persimmons, cherries, and peach tea, before giving way to citrusy notes of key lime and Buddha’s Palm citron.  On the palate, the freshness and crisp acidity of this wine truly shine, as subtle hints of vanilla bean, apricots, orange blossom carry it through to a mouthwatering finish.  When all else fails, let this rose be your on-demand zen garden!
