2016 Collection

Composition: 50% Grenache, 33% Mourvèdre, 17% Syrah

Soil Type: 

Rolling alluvial terraces with decomposed limestone deposits along its slopes.


All three lots were picked early in the morning to keep the fruit cool. 20% of the Grenache and 10% of the Mourvèdre volume was bled off in order concentrate the varietal intensity of the flavors from the grape skins. The Syrah and Mourvèdre were de-stemmed and sorted into small open top fermenters that were punched down 2-3 times per day. The Syrah stayed on skins for a total of 13 days while the Mourvèdre macerated for 19 days. The Grenache was fermented in a stainless steel tank and remained on skins for 16 days prior to pressing. 

Aging and Duration:

The Grenache and Mourvèdre were aged in 225L neutral French oak barriques for 20 months prior to bottling. The Syrah was aged in a mixture of 500L puncheons and 225L barriques, all of which were French oak (~40% new).

This GSM blend highlights all three Rhône varieties grown on the Sea Shell Estate. It features the delicate, expressive fruit of its Grenache (grown on the property's lower, west-facing slopes), the texture and weight of its Mourvèdre (grown on its lower terrace), and the savory aromatics and depth of its Syrah (grown on its upper limestone rich slopes).
